Back Gate Studio offers local Art Classes in Boise, and Art Camps, too! Teens, kids, preschoolers and families can enjoy drawing, watercolor and acrylic painting, glass painting, collage, and ceramics, family craft workshops and five-day summer art camps for kids.

We provide a supportive atmosphere for exploring, creating and broadening the art experience beyond the regular school classroom. Students develop the self-esteem that comes with accomplishment and learn to see things with an artist’s eye. We encourage your personality to shine through your art.

- Kids’ Art Camp at the Dry Creek Mercantile in Hidden Springs
June 12-16/Mon-Fri, 9:30am-noon. 5892 W. Hidden Springs Dr., 83714. Ages 6-12. Fee: $175 — everyone welcome!
- Kids’ Art Camp at Rolling Hills Public Charter School
July 17-21/Mon-Fri, 9:30am-noon. 89oo N. Horseshoe Bend Rd., 83714. Ages 6-14. Fee: $165 — everyone welcome!
Drawing, Watercolor, Acrylic on Canvas, Food Art, Collage, Printmaking, Sidewalk Chalk Art, and Textile Art — we will explore as many of these activities as we can fit into one week! Children develop their creative skills, learn new techniques, build self-esteem, and stimulate their imaginations as they express themselves through their art. Be ready to explore, create and achieve! Pre-registration is required–space is limited.
Classes are held during the school year.
Mondays 4:15-5:30 — Art Class for students of The Village Charter School, 219 Roosevelt, Boise, ID (grades 1-8) Explore beginning drawing skills along with an introduction to basic art vocabulary. Lessons are based on the elements of art, principles of design, and even a bit of color theory. Kids express themselves through their drawings, learning to draw by using recognizable shapes. We will use graphite, oil pastels, chalk pastels, and collage. (12 wk session: $108).
Tuesdays 3:40-4:40 — Ceramics for Kids — (ages 6-12) Learn hand-building techniques to create fun & useful projects through pinch pot, coil forms, and slab construction. Objects will be glazed and fired with food-safe paints and glazes. Pre-registration required. Class size is limited. (6 week session, $140) At the Merc.
Wednesdays 3:40-4:40 — Kids’ Drawing Class (ages 6-12) Projects are tailored to ability and enthusiasm! Beginning drawing skills will be explored along with an intro to basic art vocabulary. Children will be exposed to the elements of art, color theory, & learn to draw by using recognizable shapes as they develop their skills (8 wk. session, $115) At the Merc.
or Kids’ Art Class — (ages 6-12) Projects may include drawing, watercolor, acrylic painting, printmaking, collage, and food art! Children will be exposed to basic art vocabulary and the elements of art as they learn to express themselves through their creations. (8 wk. session, $115). At the Merc. These two Wednesday classes are in alternating sessions–contact us for current schedule.
Thursdays 2:45-3:45 — Art Class for students of Rolling Hills Public Charter School, Boise, ID (grades 1-8). Explore beginning drawing skills , along with an introduction to basic art vocabulary. Learn the elements of art, principles of design, and even a bit of color theory. Kids express themselves through their drawings, learning to draw by using recognizable shapes. Class held during school year. 10 week sessions (Class is held in the Cafe at Rolling Hills Charter School.)
Tuesdays 10:30-11:15am — Preschool Art! — (ages 2 1/2 – 6) Developmental art lessons — lots of fun — lots of giggles — lots of engaging arts experiences! 8 week session: $89 At the Merc.
- learn about shape, color, line and texture and develop perceptual abilities
- practice fine muscle control & strengthen hand-eye coordination
- practice patience and self-control (that paper needs to dry!) and,
- experience success!
